Illawarra Road - Poppy Field

A drive down Illawarra Road is a common occurrence for me on the commute but rarely do I get the chance of an evening. Usually at this time, I am busy putting kids to sleep by means of reading books, rocking or singing which can be a tiring process if the little kiddies don't co-operate. One will find they do not generally have the energy to go out and photograph once they are settled. With the kids in the car, I kept an eye out on my surroundings to see if any pleasing composition could be formed. I know this part of the Northern Midlands and the compositions the changing landscape can provide. Farm irrigation, different seasonal crops and the back drop of the central highlands all provide a great platform to build from. What drew me to the following composition were the bands of colour. Yellow, green, orange then blue with a focus on the setting sun. Now if I had been alone, I would not have minded waiting 15-20 minutes for the sun to just clip the horizon but I find that it provides a nice central feature that the eyes draw to.

A poppy field that I dare not enter with the irrigation in full operation. Panorama was shot using 50mm 1.8, ISO 100, f/8 @ 1/200 sec.
